It may be that what's troubling you has its roots in a recent or past trauma. Perhaps you had an emotionally or physically abusive family or were neglected as a child.  You may have experienced or witnessed some sort of physical or emotional trauma or are having flashbacks to a troubling event in the distant or recent past. These are examples of the types of issues that can benefit from EMDR therapy.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Repreocessing (EMDR) is a comprehensive approach to psychotherapy originally developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, Senior Research Fellow at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California in 1987. EMDR has been clinically proven to accelerate the treatment of a whole range of problems related to disturbing past events that are negatively impacting a client's current life. It is an interactive approach that has been empirically tested with clients presenting with a broad range of disturbing events including exposure to combat, rape, sexual molestation, natural disasters, loss of a loved one or employment and accidents. EMDR involves reprocessing the disturbing event which results in a significant reduction or elimation of symptoms. EMDR is also very effective in the treatment of anxiety, depression, complicated grief reactions and phobias. It has also been used successfully for performance enhancement in athletics and the performing arts.
